Datasensing S3N Series
The S3N Series provides a highly flexible and high-performance family of miniature photo-electric sensors, engineered for tight-space installations, versatile detection modes, and industrial reliability. With optical modes spanning from diffuse proximity up to ~1 m, background suppression up to ~800 mm, polarized reflex up to ~7-12 m, and through-beam up to ~20-30 m, the series delivers exceptional versatility, selectable logic/output and compact design.
Design & Functionality
- The housing is extremely compact (approx. 11 Γ 31 Γ 19 mm for many models) enabling mounting in very confined machine spaces or modular automation frameworks.
- Optical mode variants include:
β’ Diffuse-reflection models with nominal sensing distance ~1 m (white target) in many cases.
β’ Background suppression models capable of detecting objects in front of backgrounds, nominal ranges up to ~800 mm in LED trimmer versions.
β’ Polarised retro-reflective (RRX) models offering nominal ranges ~7 m (red LED) or ~12 m (red laser) depending on variant.
β’ Through-beam (Emitter/Receiver) models reaching nominal ranges ~20 m (LED) or ~30 m (Laser) in some specifications. - Switching frequency up to 1 kHz (in standard LED models) and response times down to ~500 Β΅s (or faster in laser/IO-Link versions) β enabling high-speed detection.
- Output logic: Selectable NPN/PNP, Light-On/Dark-On mode; IO-Link versions with advanced parameterisation and diagnostics.
- Protection rating of IP67, rugged plastic (fiber-glass reinforced) housing, M3 metal inserts on the front for mounting, and compact M8 connector or cable options β supporting industrial robustness in constrained spaces.
Total Crossed Beams
(In this miniature sensor series context, this term is used to indicate that the sensor ensures consistent detection coverage across its sensing field rather than literal crossed optical beams.)
- The S3N Series ensures a stable detection zone, even when mounted in tight frames, on conveyors or with variable targets and backgrounds β leading to fewer missed detections and higher repeatability in automation systems.
- Its compact form, fast response and broad mode variability make it ideal for applications with restricted mounting space but where performance and versatility cannot be compromised.
Beam Pitch Options
(Here interpreted as selectable sensing-distance / variant options rather than literal beam spacing.)
- Example: A diffuse model with nominal ~1 m sensing distance on a white target.
- Example: Background suppression models with nominal ranges ~25 mm β¦ ~300 mm (or up to ~800 mm) depending on version.
- Example: Through-beam models with up to ~20 m or ~30 m sensing distances.
- These variant options allow selection of an S3N model matched to your target size, mounting clearance, background conditions, and throughput requirements β offering design flexibility.
Intrinsic Synchronism
- The electronics and optics are fully integrated within the housing β no external synchronising modules or additional wiring requirements β simplifying installation and maintenance.
- With fast response times, built-in status LEDs (power, stability, output) and teach/trimmer options, setup and diagnostics are streamlined, reducing commission time.
Operational Advantages
- Ultra-compact footprint with full detection capability: The S3N Series fits into tight machine spaces while supporting long spans and a variety of optical modes β ideal for electronics, packaging, intralogistics and automated assembly lines.
- Versatile optics in one family: Diffuse, background suppression, polarised, through-beamβall in the same series reduce need for multiple sensor types and simplify inventory.
- High-speed performance: With switching up to ~1 kHz and response times as low as ~500 Β΅s (or faster in laser models), the series supports fast conveyors, pick-and-place machines, and high-throughput automation.
- Industrial robustness in miniature form: IP67 rating, fiber-glass reinforced housing, metal mounting inserts, and optional IO-Link support make the S3N durable in harsh or variable environments.
- Applications: Perfect for presence/absence detection on compact conveyors, machine-tool side sensing, transparent/reflective object detection, intralogistics systems, electronics manufacturing, and any environment requiring space-constrained installation, optical versatility, and high reliability.
