Festo Vacuum Filters

Festo Vacuum Filters (VAF series) are specifically designed for open vacuum systems to filter air in the suction direction, capturing contaminants before they reach vacuum generators or actuators. Featuring transparent bowls or housing, these filters allow visible assessment of contamination levels, and provide a compact, efficient solution for protecting vacuum lines in automation and material-handling systems.

⭐ Important: These filters ensure clean suction air, protection of vacuum components, and visual contamination monitoring β€” essential for reliable vacuum system operation.

Design & Functionality

  • Vacuum filters are mounted in-line on the suction side and serve to remove solid particles from the moving air stream.
  • Key design features include:
β€’ Transparent housing or bowl to see contamination build-up and determine when maintenance is needed.
    β€’ Filtration grades typically 50 Β΅m or 80 Β΅m, depending on series.
β€’ Operating pressures from –0.95 bar to 0 bar (vacuum) making them suitable for open vacuum systems.
β€’ Ejector-pulse suitability up to about 7 or 8 bar in many models.
  • These filters are compact and easy to integrate, and they help extend the life of vacuum generators and grippers by protecting them from dust, debris and contamination.

Total Crossed Beams

(Adapted concept: full suction-path protection rather than literal beams)

  • The filter covers the full suction flow path, ensuring every cubic centimetre of air drawn passes through the media, offering consistent protection.
  • This results in improved system reliability, fewer blockages, and better vacuum performance over time.

Beam Pitch Options

(Translated as selection of connection sizes, filtration grades and flow-capacities)

  • Typical pneumatic connection formats include PK-3, PK-4, PK-6 union nuts and also G1/4, G3/8, G1/2 threads.
  • Nominal width (flow size) examples: approximately 2 mm (PK-3), 3 mm (PK-4), 4.6 mm (PK-6).
  • Filtration grades: 50 Β΅m (standard VAF-PK series) and 80 Β΅m (VAF-DB series).
⭐ Important: By selecting the correct connection size and filtration grade, you get optimum vacuum protection without unnecessarily restricting flow or increasing pressure drop.

Intrinsic Synchronism

  • The internal flow path and construction ensure that the suction air is always filtered before reaching downstream components β€” no external synchronising device is needed.
  • This intrinsic design delivers consistent protection, minimal maintenance, and easy installation.

Operational Advantages

  • Particle filtration for vacuum systems, extending the life of vacuum pumps and grippers.
  • Transparent housing lets you monitor contamination buildup visually, simplifying maintenance.
  • Wide compatibility with various connection sizes and mounting options makes them easy to integrate into automation systems.
  • Applications: Vacuum gripping/holding systems, suction conveyors, packaging automation, pick-and-place machines, robot end-of-arm tooling.
