Festo Pneumatically Actuated Media Valves

Festo’s pneumatically actuated media valves provide reliable, high-performance fluid control across a wide variety of industrial applications. These valves are specifically designed for process and media tasks, enabling the safe and efficient control of fluids—including viscous liquids, granulates and gases—rather than just compressed air.

Unlike standard pneumatic valves, the media valve portfolio is built for augmented media compatibility, such as high-viscosity fluids, powders, cleaning agents and media under varying pressures and temperatures. They are actuated pneumatically (via compressed air), giving a dependable mechanical movement for insertion or shut-off of media flow.

Important: These valves deliver both process-grade media handling capability and automated actuation precision, making them the go-to solution for media control in automation systems.

Design & Functionality

The valves operate by either opening, closing or redirecting the flow of a medium (liquid, gas or granulate) using a pneumatic actuator. With robust sealing technology and media-resistant materials, they handle demanding environments—such as cooling circuits, cleaning cycles, lubrication systems or dosing of powders and granulates.

The construction includes variants such as pinch-valves, angle-seat valves, ball-valves and butterfly valves, all actuated by compressed air. The wide variety supports different flow capacities, pressure ratings, media types and mounting configurations.

Important: The ability to handle granulates, pastes and highly viscous media while maintaining automated actuation sets these valves apart.

Total Crossed Beams

Multiple valve families cover the full gamut of media-control applications: from small dosing flows to large bulk fluid transport. This ensures that no matter the mounting orientation, media type or flow requirement, a suitable valve variant is available.

The design guarantees consistent performance across the entire stroke or seat movement, maintaining fluid integrity, repeatability and durability under industrial duty cycles.

Beam Pitch Options

(Media control equivalents: flow variant, media type, actuation style)

  • Wide range of valve functions: 2/2-way, 3/2-way, 3-way, multi-port depending on family.
  • Actuation types: Pneumatic actuator with spring return or double-acting.
  • Construction variants: Pinch valve for granulates and dusty media; Angle-seat valve for high-pressure liquids/gases; Ball valve units for large bore flows.
  • Material & seal options: Stainless steel housings, elastomer sleeves (NBR, EPDM, Silicone), FDA-compliant options.

Important: The broad selection of valve families, flow/pressure ranges and media-adapted materials ensures precise adaptation to any process-media requirement.

Intrinsic Synchronism

The internal actuation mechanics—actuator, seat/spool, sealing—are designed for minimal hysteresis, rapid switching, low wear, and stable performance even when switching viscous media or under high differential pressures. Many variants allow any mounting orientation and reversible flow direction, giving system designers flexibility.

This ensures reliable media control in dynamic automated systems, supporting accurate dosing, mixing, cleaning or media transport tasks.

Operational Advantages

  • Automated control of liquids, gases, powders and granulates in one valve portfolio.
  • High‐integrity sealing and media-resistant components deliver long service life in harsh environments.
  • Pneumatic actuation offers fast, reliable switching with minimal auxiliary components.
  • Modular design and extensive configuration options simplify integration and reduce engineering time.
  • Compatible with automated systems for cleaning, sterilisation, lubrication, dosing, mixing and process control.
Applications: Machine tool coolant or lubricant control, granulate dosing in additive manufacturing, inert-gas flow in process chambers, cleaning agent dosing in production lines, fluid transport in chemical/food/beverage plants.
